UpgradeAutomation of 580kW hydroelectric generating unit.
Strum Engineering Associates Ltd. carried out the electrical design, preparation of technical specifications, site inspections, testing and commissioning related to this project.
The scope of work included design and specification of PLC and supervisory systems for automation of the generating unit. The project involved installation of PLC-based generating plant control system at the remote generating station, and a VTS-based graphic interface workstation/SCADA terminal at the BEC Office in Berwick. Control and monitoring communication was achieved through leased telephone lines using modems.
A custom PLC control cabinet was designed and manufactured by Strum Engineering specifically for this project.
The project began in late 2002 and was completed with the final commissioning of the systems in January 2003. We continue to provide ongoing technical and operational support.
